NA-Kemet Christmas Party Lecture: Celebrate at Silsila!

All are welcome to our FREE Christmas lecture. 7-9pm Monday 12th December.

Come and join us live online for some festive fun, a little bit of Egyptological silliness and a smashing lecture! There will also be two free courses up for grabs as prizes to be won, so grab your favourite tipple and festive snack, and join us via zoom as we celebrate at Silsila….

Our Christmas Lecture this year is given by Associate Professor Maria Nilsson and Assistant Director of the Gebel-el Silsila project John Ward. 

Gebel-el-Silsila in the Late and Graeco-Roman Period

In this lecture we will deal primarily with Silsila in the early Roman period, what evidence of quarrying and industrial administration can tell us about the industrial side of the site. You will also find out about a military presence here and even of officers migrating from Gaul! We will also explore some of the enigmatic symbols that were carved into the quarries as a form of religious communication! -Some of the exciting topics to discuss as we look at Silsila in this period.
